Some of the cards appear to be souvenirs of a honeymoon, but they have no text and were never sent.
No date "On Our Honeymoon" published by a company in Atlantic City
No date Sepia tone card of what may be a hotel room. There is no information on the card besides the name of the publisher "Holmes & Bishop [Baltimore, Md.]" The room was heavily decorated in the Victorian style.
No date Another Holmes & Bishop of an elaborately dressed white couple flanking two African-American women wearing head wraps, shawls, and long dresses with aprons. Judging by the white woman's clothing, the time period was the first fifteen or so years of the 1900s. There is no information at all on the card, which is a real shame.
No date Holmes & Bishop card of a priest's chair in an unnamed place. The chair has an upholstered seat and back and wooden arms, legs, and stretcher. It is in front of a plaster? piece with a cross on the top, a scroll under that, and praying angels on the bottom.
No date A Christmas postcard that must have been delivered, not mailed. There were two nice poinsettia flowers in a gold rectangle with "A Merry Christmas" stamped in gold. Mary Loretto wished Mrs. Spalding a Happy Xmas and prosperous New Year.
August 29, 1891 This plain postcard was sent to Mrs. Dr. S. E. Spalding via the Weems line. C. Simms told Aunt Carrie that the old gentleman was coming on Sunday's boat. A piece has been cut out of the card, perhaps for the stamp.
December 25, 1911 Another card that was not mailed. The picture side is on a beige background with a not very well printed picture of the Holy Family with holly and evergreens and gold decorations completing the tableau. Paula sent Grana love and kisses, Grana being Mrs. C. M. Spalding in Baltimore visiting George A. Simms.
January 10, 1912 Black and white photo of Harper's Ferry with the two bridges prominently featured. There is a small white X on John Brown's fort. This card was copyright 1908 by W. L. Erwin of Harper's Ferry, WV. Gus? Jr. sent the card to Mrs. C. M. Spalding in Baltimore.
April 5, 1912 Lovely silver Easter postcard with flowers and bells sent to Mrs. C. M. Spalding in Leonardtown, care of Dr. Greenwell, from Janie & all.
December 25, 1913 Christmas card of two folded sheets to create the effect of a booklet. A beige fabric cord defined the center. There was a black and white image of the Virgin and child on the front and a small Christmas poem inside. The card was from Peter and Anna--Peter was Mrs. Spalding's son.
April 9, 1914 Pretty Easter card with a blue hanging basket and rose decorated swags from E. L. W to Mrs. Dr. E. Spalding in Leonardtown.
April 20, 1924 A Guess Who postcard to William Fenwick in Philadelphia.
