William Muir, from Bardstown, Kentucky, received a letter from Sarah F. Johnson of Chaptico on October 9, 1829. She was a friend of his from Saint Mary's County. This is his response. He discussed the death of his son and the management of the estate. It appeared Mr. Muir was an attorney or had enough legal training to get by. A daughter and her family was visiting him. Mr. Muir had experienced several illnesses and did not expect to live very long. He approved of Mrs. Johnson's planned move to her sister's and very much wanted her new address. He had fond memories of oysters.
An attempt at a transliteration is with the piece and the envelope in which it was sent to Mr. Gough. Additional research done by Christine in the Research Center is in an accompanying folder.Collection
