Description

A photo copied onto white printer paper. The image is a portrait of a man wearing a suit and tie, captured from the mid abdomen up. His facial expression is stern but not unkind, and he has a strong, dark colored mustache to match his cropped hairstyle. Along with the photo are printouts of genealogical data. One regarding the Webster family and of the Bissells and their renown through American history. William Rombough Bissell was born in the Carolinas, traveled to California for the gold rush, returned to Maryland, joined the Confederacy and became a captain before he died (July 17, 1863) of wounds from the third day of the Battle of Gettysburg (July 3, 1863) as part of Pickett's Division. He had married Margaret Webster, the daughter of Captain John Adams Webster. Excerpts from the "Genealogical and Memorial History of the State of New Jersey: A Record of the Achievements of her People in the Making of a Commonwealth and the Founding of a Nation," compiled by Francis Bazley Lee, published in 1910 by Lewis Historical Publishing Company.
