26 leaves of manuscript about Thomas Copley, a name assumed by Father Philip Fisher, S.J. to conduct business in the new colony of Maryland. Mr. Copley was supposed to look after the physical needs of his flock--food, housing, clothing, etc. He engaged in fur trading, managed sizable tracts of land, and frequently sued to collect debts. Copley was captured by Ingle and taken to England in chains, but was acquitted at trial and released. Copley returned to Maryland in 1648 and resumed his duties. He died in 1652. Mr. Beitzell devoted most of his paper to the life of Thomas Copley as a priest.Collection
