Description
Bear Mountain was built on the steel hull of the steamer Highlander which was destroyed by fire in April 1924. Highlander was built in 1902 as the steamer William G. Payne. In between she was named Bridgeport. Bear Mountain was brought into Chesapeake Bay service in 1944.
