Monumental Church (Episcopal) stand on Broad Stree, on what was formerly Academy Square. It was built as a memorial and upon the site of the old Richmond Theatre, destroyed by fire December 26th, 1811, at which time about 60 persons, including Governor G.W. Smith of Virginia, lost thier lives; the crypt in the protico contains their ashes and a record of their names.
