Contract between the Washington Steamboat Company and the Potomac Ferry Company. Found Enclosed in folder (2024.35.001). Transcript below: FIRST PAGE “Dated June 1st. 1881 The Potomac Ferry Company To The Washington Steamboat Company Limited Lease [(9) not recorded] This Indenture made the first day of June, one thousand eight hundred and eighty one between The Potomac Ferry Company of the District of Columbia, party of the first part AND The Washington Steamboat Company Limited a corporation created by and existing under the laws of the State of [Illegible], part of the second part. Witnesseth: That the said party of the first part has letter and by these presents does grant, demise and let, unto the said party of the second part, the right to establish and run a line or lines of vessels propelled by steam or other powers between the City of Washington in the District of Columbia and the City of Alexandria, in the State of Virginia and other points in the State of Virginia, or the Potomac River Chesapeake Bay or other tributaries of the same, and all other rights, powers, and privileges possessed by the party of the first part by virtue of an act of the 38th Congress of the United States of America, approved July 1 1864, entitled “An Act to incorporate the Potomac Ferry Company” the said part of the first part , for the term of forty years from the first day of June 1881 at the yearly rent or sum of one hundred Dollars, to be paid in” SECOND PAGE: “annual payments And the said party of the second part does covenant to pay to said part of the first part the said yearly rent as herein specified But nothing herein contained shall be construed to impose on the party of the second part [illegible] any of its incorporations or stockholders any of the liabilities or obligations referred to in said act of Congress In Witness Whereof the parties hereto have caused their corporate seals to be hereunto affixed and these presents to be signed by their respective presidents this first day of June 1881 In presence of Ed.
