Scope and Content

Commemorative ribbon is titled: UNION HOPE, LODGE NO. 31, I.O.G.S. & D. OF S., Irvington, VA. It is purple and seven inches long with gold fringe of two inches. Sewn to the top front is a white or light-color ribbon 2 1/2 inches long with two United States flags with crossed poles. Hanging from the white ribbon is a metal disk with a colored drawing of a red clothed man helping a sick or wounded man with no clothes under a tree. There is a saddled donkey or ass and a flying dove with an olive branch. There is grass under the men and mountains in the background. Lettering is present: I.O.G.S. and D. of S. of U.S.A. On the reverse and sewn to the purple ribbon is a black ribbon titled: In Memoriam, the center contains a silver or white bordered circle with a silver or white torso of a clothed man or women, beneath which is UNION HOPE, Lodge No. 31, I.O.G.S. & D. OF S., Irvington, VA.
