Description

Teapot having a baluster-shaped body, standing on a pedestal base with a rolled loop handle with two notches at the top, a faceted curved spout, a short vertical neck, and a low domed cover, decorated with incised lines at the shoulders. The Staffordshire potters Thomas and John Wedgwood referred to “white natched teapots” in their account book between about 1740 and about 1750 which probably refers to the notched handles on pots like this (Mountford, Staffordshire Salt-Glazed Stoneware (1971), 42).
