Teapot

Description

Teapot having a globular body, standing on a pedestal base with a rolled loop handle with notches at the top, a faceted curved spout, and a short vertical neck (to support a missing cover), decorated with incised lines at the shoulders and base of the body. The Staffordshire potters Thomas and John Wedgwood referred to “white natched teapots” in their account book between about 1740 and about 1750 which probably refers to the notched handles on pots like this (Mountford, Staffordshire Salt-Glazed Stoneware (1971), 42).
