Description

Hemispherical bowl standing on a foot ring, painted in underglaze blue with a chinoiserie landscape scene with a scholar’s rock, building, trees, and a man on a boat around the exterior. Small bowls like this could have been used for any number of purposes, ranging from individual punch bowls to waste bowls for tea. Collectors refer to this as the triffid pattern. For a saucer with a similar rounded rock and man and boat, see the saucer in the Victoria and Albert Museum, accession number C.899-1924 and Maurice Hillis, Liverpool Porcelain (2011), 189.
