Thaddeus Welch Painting, Bolinas BeachEntry/Object ID
2007-102-01Description
A color digital photo print of a painting by Thaddeus Welch in 1893. The original painting is in the collection of Bolinas Museum. The painting is titled 'Bolinas Beach' since this area was all part of the Rancho Bolinas at that time. It depicts greenish late spring hills and the green grass valley opening to the beach with "rocks." The Rocks are at the southern end of Stinson Beach (placement of the rocks suggest the wet green area is near the existing Community Center). A group of cows and a steer can be seen in the green valley. The hill on right hand side is rocky with Bay trees growing on it. The hill on left hand side is where Highway 1 is now. The old Sausalito-Bolinas Road, the predecessor of Highway 1, is visible on the hillside. Between the hills the blue of the ocean with white surf captures our attention. The sky which covers nearly half of the canvas has pinkish white clouds.Collection
