Scope and Content

In 2014, Friends of Bolinas Stinson Beach Libraries & SBHS hosted the screening of "Rebels With A Cause", a documentary by Nancy Kelly & Kenji Yamamoto, narrated by Frances McDormand. It is the story of a regional California effort that grew into 14 National Seashores. It was the result of garden clubs, ranchers, farmers, conservationists, politicians from both parties, widows and volunteers working together. Some of the leaders gave talks afterward to the full house recounting the effort & strain it caused. Gary Giacomoni, a former Marin County Supervisor, noted that his family of ranchers and farmers were against the project as they hoped for profitable sales to private developers. Mr. Giacomini noted several stressful family gatherings. Marty Griffin later had Griffin Preserve in Audobon Canyon names after him. This copy of the DVD is in the Archives
