2009-104-07Description
Black and white photograph of a panoramic view from the hill above looking down on the White Gate Ranch (center) and Stinson Beach and Bolinas beyond. The photograph is dated 3/6/1948 on the back in pencil. Also noted L.A. indicating Louise Airey as the owner of the photo. The title, "From above White Gate Ranch," is written in ink in her handwriting. It was taken from the hill south of the Panoramic Hwy on clear day with a wisp of fog beyond Bolinas ridge. Under the fog the Point Reyes Peninsula can be seen. The tide is low, showing Duxbury Reef. Houses in Patios and Old Town can be seen dotted in white. The road leads to Highlands but there are no houses. The White Gate Ranch barn (not existing now) shown on the center of photo and the house and bigger barn (lower) were the symbolic entrance to Stinson Beach since 1880s.Collection
