Description

An older man's (Syd Boyle) portrait in black and white photograph. He is wearing a captain's cap and standing in front of his half broken down house. An aluminum ladder if leaning against the house structure to right of him. He is wearing a lighter colored t-shirt and a sweater under a dark colored hoodie. This photo must be taken at the same time as a newspaper article of him and his house which was taken down by the storm of 1983 appeared in the local press since he is wearing the same clothing as in the photo in the newspaper although he has much more calmer demeanor in this portrait. The house stood on the ocean front of Calle del Resaca (The house was rebuilt since). The newspaper (Marin I.J.) article talks about how he built the house in 1947 and how the storm with its high tides took his house down. Syd was town's laundry man who picked the laundry and took over the hill to be cleaned until mid 1970s when he retired. He was known for his paintings of birds on driftwood.
