Scope and Content

Jim Dixon remembers his step-grandfather Syd Boyle ("Puppa Syd"). As a young man, Syd ran a dry-cleaning business but was a bookie on the side. His house was one of the 14 houses swept out to sea in 1982-1983. We learn a little history of Marin County (Mill Valley and Tiburon, in particular) and the Boyle family's place in it (including his grandmother Madeline's Gin from Southern Marin); Syd's love of duck hunting, which led to his paintings of ducks and birds on driftwood; the 1982-82 storms that destroyed his house on the beach, and his friends and family who helped him rebuild the house where he lived and died at age 89.
