1949 - Back: William Curr, Mary Tobin, Jean Ann Curr, Bridie Curr.
Front: Bill, Dick and Tom Curr in front of their home on Francisco.
During WWII, Bridget (Bridie) Curr was a welder in the Sausalito Ship Yards for a time. When the WWII ships would come in to SF they would often pitch left over supplies (flour, butter, etc.) over board. They would do this so that they could get fresh supplies and not be shorted if it were known that they didn’t use all of what they’d previously gotten. Often times those items would wash up on the beach. The kids would find them and my Bridie would use them. The flour sacks could be cut open and the flour in the center was still good – the water seeping in would create a crust but, wouldn’t totally penetrate the sack. And they’d also grab cans of butter.
