1993-202-01Description
This black and white photograph is of a long, wood siding, one storey building. There are painted signs on the end and the entry side reading 'The Surf Club' and also a free standing sign on a pole on the roof reading 'Surf CLUB lunch & dinners'. There are some minimal plants and shrubs along the side of the entry. Two cars are parked in front. At the back of the building a two story annex is partially visible.
It was owned by Frank Periera form 1937. In WWII it was leased to the Coast Guard for barracks. It was bought in 1954 by Friday & Lou Cuselle. Tales started at this time that the building was haunted. The owners nicknamed it the "Black Angel". In 1963, Bought & renamed "Red Whale"; 1967 it became "The Brig"; in 1975Neil Schauf named it "The Reef". Theodore Danz bought it in 1977, in 1979 Ken Gordon named it the "Over The Hill Bar & Grill". All the businesses failed enforcing the legend. It was torn down in 1992 and the Stinson Beach County Water District offices are on the property.Collection
