Description

This black and white photograph is of a large, four storey, clapboard building (Sea Beach Hotel). The ground floor has two windows and a door on each side of a central staircase leading up to the main entry and a covered veranda running across the length of the building. Above that are three sets of windows on the third floor and above that is a large fourth floor dormer with six windows. Hills are in the background. Notes: This is a photograph of the Sea Beach Hotel Built in 1913 or 1915 by Jack and Sarah Airey. Jack's Brother, Henry (Harry) Airey, who had the Airey Store helped to build). The Hotel was later run by their son Will and his wife, Louise Airey. Located on Highway 1, (present address 3440 Shoreline Hwy), in 1940s the basement was used by the community for a meeting hall until the Community Center was built. It was sold and was named The Grand Hotel when it burned down in 1971. The sign of the Grand Hotel has been salvaged and is used by the second hand store in Bolinas named the Grand Hotel.
