Scope and Content

Digital Copy Part 2--Manetta remembers coming to Marin County and Stinson Beach. She details her husband Gail's work in the Marin Shipyards during World War II and later his dedicated service to and for the water district. She speaks of the "wide open town" in the 1940s, the bunkers and the military presence, including dogs and horse patrols. She talks of their close friendship with Frenchy Gales and Marge, John & Marie Smith and Bill & Marge Woodington. She talks of her daughter Nancy's illness when an infant. She recalls for us the dune buggys, the Oyster House and Ma Sidler's, the Lacaze "ranch" and Joe Avila's "garage." There is a good overview of the history of the water district near the end.
