Hal recalls living in back of the hotel/store and his time as a kid playing on the beach. He speaks of his grandmother Elizabeth and the cottages she owned (Geranium Cottage), his mother Marjorie and her swimming ability, his sister Marna and school, plus other relatives. He mentions the Anchorage and the early Dipsea Race. He talks a bit about his father and the early days of the Fire Dept. and hunting with him along the Lagoon by McKennan's Landing, and an early boating adventure with his cousin. He relates a bit about his childhood Christmases and later his bicycle "accident" that kept him out of the Army. Then speaks of Frenchy Gales, who became his stepfather, and Mr, Fitzhenry who ran Willow Camp.
He has some stories about surfing with the boys from the Laffalot and the early days of the War when the Army moved into town (Steep Ravine cabins and blackouts). He speaks of his father who was a general contractor and the house he now lives in before he tells of his years in the Navy as a pilot in southeast Asia and his time with Air America, his wife Oy and his twin boys.Collection
