Scope and Content

Mildred Sadler describes her memories of over 70 years in Stinson Beach. Mildred came to Stinson to teach in 1926 when she graduated from San Francisco Teachers College. She had 14 students, mainly from the dairies. She married Lester Sadler, a local son, in 1938 and helped build the Community Center, Fire House and Community Church. During World War II Stinson Beach became home to people working in the Sausalito Ship yards and the school double in size, employing Louise Airey to help teach the 40 children. She was the Progressive Club secretary from its inception, organized multiple events including feeding displaced families during disasters. Interview by Kristin Hamnn as a school project.
