Scope and Content

Discussion of Marin County Recreation Committee for playgrounds and parks. Garbage dump was a continuing issue. Another membership drive was begun. There were club sponsored card,and bingo parties, a St. Patrick's Dance. Requests for stop signs at Calle del Sierra and Calle del Arroyo. A request for state highway patrol on Sundays and holidays during the summer. The March meeting had 55 members present!!!! The Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce had taken over the Dipsea race and asked Stinson Prog. Club for help. There was discussion about the purchase of the former Coast Guard Barracks by the county. Decided to have a sports committee for purchase of playground equipment and supervision of playground activities. The sports committee was put in charge of providing motion pictures. There was a meeting with PG&E to discuss street lights, but not much encouragement was given. It could wait for three or four years. Desire for square dancing group. Desire for interdenominational church. In Sept. the focus became the Stinson Beach Water Works, which had recently purchased Arenal Water company. They were to erect a new tank and replace old lines. Water purity was said to be good. There were concerns raised about varying water pressure and unexpected shut offs. There was then a discussion of the new fire dept. equipment. Discussion of a proposed new code that would require licensed plumbers , electricians etc. for any building or home repairs. That would mean that workmen would have to come from San Rafael and the expense would be greater. The Club voted to write their opposition to this Code. The Club voted not to pay the taxes on the Presbytery land because they could not use it for their desired purpose, i.e. a combined church and community center. A Christmas tree was ordered. Square dancing was continuing. There were plans for a big Christmas party with a men's chorus caroling for all and the Tree.
