Scope and Content

The year began with meetings at the Fire House not the Sea Beach Hotel. Scouting was still a central focus. Card parties were seen as important fund raisers. In Jan. there was discussion of Civil Defense and how a co-ordinator needed to be appointed. The 4-H club was discussed and awards given. Discussed starting an Explorers group of the Boy Scouts. Discussed having the State Park system acquire certain area properties. More talk of dredging Bolinas Lagoon.. The July 4th Celebration was not able to find a chairman as of April even though they decided to pay someone to take the position. In May it was decided to have a one day celebration. No bathing beauty contest and fewer booths. Still no chairman. New cans and some more county support for beach clean up during the summer was discussed. Discussion of Kent acreage and having the state purchase it for $40,000.00. Land from Sea Downs south. Kent is anxious to dispose of the property. Richmond SanRafael Bridge should be completed by 1956 There was also concern about the closure of the road parallel to Kent's fence on the sandspit. Lester Sadler Jr. took over the July 4th Celebration and did well. Discussion of Unit #2 of the Community Center. The Director of the community center had funds of $10,000 Civil Defense was not getting enough cooperation. They need Block Mothers. By November the Cub Scouts were down to 3 members and they needed four for a Pack. Discussion of burning of rubbish in open and closed containers. The Community Church was $225 in debt and not getting funds and might have to be discontinued.
