Scope and Content

For many years Barbara Bowen Splain lived on Willow in Stinson Beach. Her working life was dedicated to working for social and economic justice. During her last 8 years she served as National Coordinator for Organizers Forum, a project of the Tides Foundation in San Francisco. Prior to that she campaigned for collective bargaining rights for California home care workers, coordinated voter registration in the South for Project Vote, organized with ACORN and United Labor Unions and the Children's Federation. She began her long career by enlisting in VISTA in 1968. She was married to Mark Splain for 43 years. Her son, Manuel, and daughter, Teresita, live in Stinson as well as her brother, Jim Bowen.
