"The Old Powerhouse restaurant and Bar"Description
"The Old Powerhouse restaurant and Bar" . Originally built to be the powerhouse for the Hamilton, Grimsby and Beamsville Street Railway. Opened in 1894.The 2 condensing engines were powered by water supplied from The Stoney Creek and a small pond to the west(left side of the building. The supply of water from the creek was quite minimal and a new power center was built in 1898 at Decew Falls in St Catharine's and the use of the powerhouse diminished. The building was purchased in the 1980 and converted to a restaurant. The current existing restaurant contains some very unusual collectors pieces. The ceiling fan above the bar was from the set of Humphrey Bogart's film, Casablanca. The storage unit behind the bar was repurposed from The St Patricks church in Buffalo NY. The ceiling chandelier at the front entrance was once owned by Mark Twain and originally in the a restaurant at The Cloisters and there is half of a confessional booth at the entrance to the washrooms.Location
