Appletons' Journal, published by D. Appleton and Company, presented a vivid picture of post-Civil War America. It contained serial publications of novels, short articles on art, drama, education, travel, popular science, and biography. Many famous authors were published in its pages. This is the second volume in a set. This volume runs from Number twenty-one to number thirty nine; August 21, to December 25 1869.
