Description

Cloak or cape part of a Augustana Student Nurse Uniform. Blue with a predominantly red interior. The upper section of the front's exterior has two attached blue bow-shaped structures, each of which connects to the cape's main part with two black buttons, one of which is on the respective left side and one of which is on the respective right side and a pocket which has a predominantly blue exterior and a predominantly red interior.

Context

Augustana School of Nursing opened in 1894 at 480 Cleveland Avenue to train nurses of Scandinavian descent. The school first admitted non-Scandinavian students to the training program in 1905. By the time it closed in 1989, Augustana graduated over 3,000 nurses.
