Description

Dress part of a Swedish folk costume (folkdräkt) from Skön, Västernorrland. Largely red with an upper section in yellow decorated with white flowers. The front of the jumper has a large green apron-like attachment decorated with red, white, blue, yellow, and pink flowers, a thick black horizontal stripe decorated with two red flowers and a yellow flower, and three tannish-orange stripes, two of which are horizontal, one of which is vertical, and all of which are decorated with yellow, white, purple, blue, and orange flowers.

Context

The folk dress was owned by Margareta Eriksson Backlund who lived from 1898 until around 1969. She arrived in the U.S. in 1927.
