Description

Duraweld-brand welding goggles with round glass lenses, wooden rims, perforated metal side shields, and a black adjustable elastic strap.

Context

Welding goggles belonging to Adolph Gunnar Mauritz Nilssen. "WPA" is carved onto either side of goggles, possibly referring to the Work Projects Administration (est. 1935), one of Roosevelt's New Deal Programs which provided jobs for those who became unemployed during the Great Depression.
