Brown book titled "Minnes-Skrift 1853-1903" about the history of Immanuel Lutheran Church, a Swedish Evangelical church in northern Chicago. Published in Rock Island, Illinois by Lutheran Augustana Book Concerns Tryckeri in 1903 for the 50th anniversery of the church.

Context

Immanuel Lutheran Church was founded in 1853 in Swede Town, Chicago. In 1918, the church moved north to the Edgewater neighborhood, where it is still open today. The first Swedish school in Chicago was organized by Immanuel Church in Swede Town. The church hosted hvardagsskolan (weekday school) for kids aged 8 or younger. Sunday schools, youth programs, and Swedish language classes taught religious values and Swedish heritage to American-born Swedish children.
