Context

Hannes Wagnstedt was born in 1906 in Västerbotten, Sweden. Wagnstedt was married to public school teacher Dagmar Margareta Arvidsson, and he too became a public school teacher in Skellefteå. He pursued artistic studies at Otte Sköld’s painting school in Stockholm 1936-1938, and then studied with Othon Friesz and André Lhote in Paris. Wagnstedt became a versatile artist working in many different mediums; some include lithography, mosaics, painting, and glass painting. His work was exhibited in many galleries around Sweden, and was involved in traveling exhibitions. After the Second World War, he began to travel around the world to North America, North Africa, Europe, among other places as well. He passed away in 1980 in Skellefteå, Sweden; he is remembered as a prolific and intelligent Swedish artist.
