Tan Independent Order of Vikings pamphlet. Topics covered are "I.O.V. Life Insurance - The Heart of Our Organization," "Our Juniors," "Local Lodge Activities," "Who Runs the I.O.V.," "National Conventions," "What We Offer," and "Local Lodges."Context
Established in 1891 to provide a community for Swedish working-class men in Chicago, the Independent Order of Vikings offered members health insurance, promoted self-improvement, and celebrated Swedish culture and Norse mythology.
In 1904, Swedish-American women began their own Order, which they disbanded when women were allowed full membership in the original order in 1933. Today, the Independent Order of Vikings still has lodges across the U.S. celebrating Scandinavian heritage and culture.Acquisition
