Description

Lucia crown made of bronze-colored metal. Decorations of bright green and pine green evergreen leaves are wrapped around the crown. Seven bronze-colored round metallic inserts for candles, one of which has a bronze-colored metallic base.

Context

Hand-made crown which Selma Jacobson, a schoolteacher had made for her when she was playing the part of Lucia in a dramatic production. Lucia Day is a holiday that is celebrated on December 13th annually in Sweden. It is a Christian feast day that commemorates the martyr Saint Lucia. The celebration consists of a procession, led by someone playing Saint Lucia whose defining feature is a glowing crown full of candles. Traditional songs are sung and treats are passed out, it is a beautiful ceremony with a rich tradition of spreading cheer.
