A small original woodcut print by Swedish-American artist, Birger Sandzén (1871 - 1954) who lived and worked in Lindsborg, Kansas for most of his life. Print is mated and framed, signed and titled by artist in pencil. Unknown number of editions were made of the print. Original run is from 1938, with an additional run made in 1941.Context
Birger Sandzén was born in 1871 in Västergötland, Sweden. Sandzén studied art with Arvid Nyholm, Anders Zorn, and Richard Berg in the Arts League of Stockholm, and with Edmond François Aman-Jean in Paris in the late 19th century. In the 1890s, he moved to Lindsborg, Kansas and taught art at Bethany College until 1946. Sandzén was a prolific painter and printmaker throughout his life until he passed away in 1954. His work is characterized by landscape scenes of the American West and Southwest, particularly Utah and New Mexico.Acquisition
