A small original drypoint etching print made by Birger Sandzén (1871-1954) in 1933 in Lindsborg, Kansas, entitled "Canyon Houses." The print is signed by Sandzén and is mated and framed. This print is one of 35 editions of the original etching.

Context

Birger Sandzén was born in 1871 in Västergötland, Sweden. Sandzén studied art with Arvid Nyholm, Anders Zorn, and Richard Berg in the Arts League of Stockholm, and with Edmond François Aman-Jean in Paris in the late 19th century. In the 1890s, he moved to Lindsborg, Kansas and taught art at Bethany College until 1946. Sandzén was a prolific painter and printmaker throughout his life until he passed away in 1954. His work is characterized by landscape scenes of the American West and Southwest, particularly Utah and New Mexico.
