Use

Worn by Virginia Olson Anderson, the donor's mother, who graduated from nursing school in 1953 and worked at the Swedish Covenant Hospital.

Context

The Swedish Evangelical Covenant Church (Mission Friends) founded the Home of Mercy in Bowmanville, Chicago in 1886, operating as a hospital, orphanage, and senior home. Due to the increase of medical services needed, the Home decided to open a hospital. In 1899, a nurse training program began and in 1903 the first unit of the hospital was constructed under the name Swedish Covenant Hospital. Today, Swedish Hospital is owned by Endeavor Health and remains a teaching hospital.
