Description
A green book containing five short stories written by Selma Lagerlöf and edited by Jules Mauritzson. The book is assumed to have been used as a teaching aid for individuals learning Swedish as the contents of the book include a vocabulary section in which Swedish words are translated to English. Inside the front cover is a logo for the Augustana College & Theological Seminary's Denkmann Memorial Library. A small slip of paper left in the book has seven different monograms of the letters "LTC."
Context
Selma Laferlöf (1858-1940) was a well-known Swedish short story author who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1909.
Jules Göthe Ultimas Mauritzson (1868-1930) was a Swedish-American who moved to Chicago in 1896 and took the position of Professor of the Swedish Language and Literature at Augustana College in 1901.
Ownership was legally transferred to the Swedish American Museum per the gift agreement.
