Description

Stitched Swedish American Recreation Club insignia badge. Blue background with gold border. Red and white vertical stripes with gap in middle for gold stitched letters. "S" stiched over an "A" with an "R" on the left and a "C" on right.

Context

Chicago Swedish Athletic Club (Swedish American Recreation Club of Chicago) was established in 1913 to centralize athletic events in the Chicago Swedish community. The club organized teams in track and field, soccer, boxing, wrestling, bike racing, and swimming. The club combined recreation with national pride and friendly competition with other ethnic athletic clubs in the city.
