Scope and Content

Yellow program for the Grand Opening of the Swedish American Recreation Club's new Club House in April 1963. The event took place in Chicago's Lake View neighborhood.

Context

Chicago Swedish Athletic Club (Swedish American Recreation Club of Chicago) was established in 1913 to centralize athletic events in the Chicago Swedish community. The club organized teams in track and field, soccer, boxing, wrestling, bike racing, and swimming. The club combined recreation with national pride and friendly competition with other ethnic athletic clubs in the city.
