Description

Hand-carved wooden armchair with three legs.

Context

This chair was made in Sweden by Frederic Johanson as his "Gesällprov," an apprentice carpenter's final project to prove his trade education was finished and he was ready to become a full tradesman. Johanson emigrated from Sweden to Chicago in 1900 and worked as a finisher on many building interiors in the Halsted area of Chicago.
