Context

Swedish Bakery was a much beloved Swedish-American bakery business in the Andersonville neighborhood of Chicago. In the 1920s a Swedish-American family, the Johnsons, opened Swedish Bakery on Clark St in Andersonville. Throughout the 20th century, ownership changed hands multiple times until 1979 when Marlies Stanton, a pastry chef at the bakery, bought it. Marlies and her family continued to cater to the Swedish and Andersonville community until closing in 2017. Signature items included mazariner (almond tart), toscas (almond cake), the prinsesstårta (princess torte), homemade chocolate ganache, cardamom bread, limpa (rye) bread, and the Andersonville coffee cake.
