Augustana Hospital of Nursing school application for Alice Swanson, 1927.Context
The Augustana School of Nursing began taking applications in 1894. During the early years of the school, applicants needed to be at least 21 years old and have a recommendation from their pastor. This application from Alice Swanson shows she was only 18 at the time, so she likely was not admitted to the school. By 1937, applicants were required to have a high school education including one year of Chemistry, good health, good character, and be 18 ½ years of age.Acquisition
