Description

Nurse's cap part of an Augustana Student Nurse Uniform. Off-white with an upper section which is divided into three parts on the outer side and two white buttons, one of which is at the back left end of the outer side, one of which is at the back right end of the outer side, and both of which can go through corresponding inserts in the main part of the item.

Context

Augustana School of Nursing opened in 1894 at 480 Cleveland Avenue to train nurses of Scandinavian descent. The school first admitted non-Scandinavian students to the training program in 1905. By the time it closed in 1989, Augustana graduated over 3,000 nurses.
