Photograph album with a blue cover. Includes 210 photographs of Eunice Swanberg's relatives and friends taken between 1927-1945 in a variety of places and in connection with a variety of events, including the family home in Chicago, various visits and vacations at lakes in the Chicagoland area, a visit to Yellowstone National Park in 1929, and the Chicago World's Fair in 1933. In addition, there is a written description of how Eunice's parents, Hilda Johnson and Julius Swanberg met and married in 1910 from the 25th Anniversary celebration.Context
Donated by Eunice Swanberg, daughter of Hulda Johnson and Julius Swanberg. Hulda Johnson was born in Sweden and immigrated to Chicago, Illinois. Her first job in Chicago was as head cook and bottle washer on Orleans Street. She later worked at Peterson's Nursery, where she started dating Julius Swanberg. Julius was born in Stockholm in 1887 and migrated to the U.S. at age 15. Julius was a prolific inventor and mechanical engineer, who went on to patent a mechanical pencil. Hulda and Julius married on May 7, 1910. Their daughter Eunice was born on August 11, 1911, at Augustana Hospital in Chicago. The couple's first home was on Wayne Avenue.Acquisition
