Hat part of a uniform worn by Norman D. Johnson when he served in the US Navy during WWII. The hat has a black lip and mostly white top. There is a gold band along the front and a black band behind that. On the front is a gold painted elblem of two anchors crossed with ropes around them. This brass peice is held on to a piece of felt with a screw in the center of the cross.
The inside has a leather lining that is coming loose. Beneath that is a wicker lining along the rim. There is a piece of cardboard stapled on one side to the lining to create the shape of the front of the hat. There is a piece of metal running along the top to keep the shape as well.
There is also a large tag on the inside that says "The Commodore, Designed and manufactured by Ratner, San Diego, California." Below that is a secnd tag that says "Norman D. Johnson, 1221 Cleveland Street, Wilmette, ILL. N.D. Johnson, Lieut. USNR." Both tags are encased in a plastic sleeve.Acquisition
