Scope and Content

Black and white photo of the banquet and reception in honor of the soldiers, sailors, marines, and war nurses under the auspices Chicago District Central Swedish Conference; Hotel Sherman Nov. 6, 1919.

Context

The Thor-Shogren archival collection contains military service documents, sympathy cards, and letters sent between Grace Shogren, David Thor, Joseph Thor, Elmer Thor, and other members of the family. David Thor was Grace Shogren’s first husband. He died in action on June 10th, 1918, and was temporarily buried in France until he was returned to the United States in 1921. Grace remarried his brother, Joseph Thor, in 1921. They attended Moreland Church in Oak Park, Illinois.
