Description

3M Scotch Magnetic Tape 141 Tartan Series with 2 sides. Side 1 contains multiple traditional Swedish folk tunes (polskor). Side 2 contains a recording of Chicago's Swedish Radio Program (Svenska Radioprogrammet i Chicago). The tape recording is undated.

Context

The donor Per-Hugo Kristensson was born in 1933 in Gothenburg, Sweden and spent over 70 years in Chicago before moving back to Partille, Sweden around 2019. He lived in Park Ridge with his mother Gullan Kristensson. Both his parents were from Gothenburg. Per-Hugo was an active member of the Swedish-American community in Chicago and has donated many items to the Swedish American Museum. He was a member of the International Order of Good Templars (IOGT), Swedish Newcomers Society of the International Order of Good Templars Folkdancers also known as Svenska Nykommar Foreningen, and the Swedish Cultural Society in the United States. He represented the US section of IOGT in 1979 and was the President of the Swedish Cultural Society in 1988. He was also active in the Irving Park Lutheran Church in Chicago. The Kristensson Family moved to Chicago in 1949 and joined the International Organization of Good Templars (IOGT) in 1957. IOGT arranged Midsummer festivals with a maypole at the IOGT camp adjacent to Good Templar Park with its 57 Scandinavian summer cottages. Per-Hugo Kristensson started the Swedish Newcomer Society of IOGT for young immigrants, helping them find work and a place to live. They entertained with Swedish circle dances and it soon became a folk dance group. Per-Hugo Kristensson was the President of the Jupiter Lodge No. 3, IOGT Chicago.
