Description

This sword is part of a formal uniform worn by Norman D. Johnson when he served in the US Navy during WWII. The sword (2022.5.7.A) has a gold painted handle with an eagle surrounded by stars on the top. The grip is ribbed with gold bands. The handle is decorated with fish and flowers. The sword itself is silver and has designes down two thirds of it. On one side it is decorated with flowers, anchors with rope, an eagle, and "U.S.N." on a flag. The other side has floral decorations, the Star of David, an achor with a shield showing stars and stripes, and an emblen showing a USA flag , a trident, and two crossed axes. The sheath (2022.5.7.B), or scabbard, is black with gold detailing. There are two gold pained ropes with a loop hanging off each. At the bottom of the sheath is a gold painted fish figurine.
