Caribbean SceneDescription
Lush foliage, a simple dwelling and two figures are rendered in washed out colors, indicating an interlude bright yet overcast day in the Caribbean. In 1950, Clarke won a Carnegie Fellowship, which allowed him to spend the summer in the Caribbean, mainly Puerto Rico, painting still lifes and landscapes. It is most likely that this painting was from this exposure to the Caribbean environment.Collection
